'The Club for Sea Canoeists'
GENERAL INFORMATION - April 1984
(This was the information produced by the club when it was first formed)
Although at first glance through the INTRODUCTION and CONSTITUTION of this club it may seem that you need to be a 'super' sea canoeist. This is not necessarily so. You are not ever being asked to go to Maatsuyker Island, and indeed many people will have absolutely no wish to do so. All you are being asked to do is to participate in three overnight sea trips a year. After five years membership this should give you the experience and confidence to take part in sea trips anywhere in the world.
This club is being initiated by some of the most experienced sea canoeists in Tasmania (initial membership will include 4 Australian Canoe Federation Sea Instructors), many of whom view with some concern the lack of leadership training in many canoe clubs - it is only a matter of time before some of the recent incidents turn into fatalities.
The MAATSUYKER CANOE CLUB is intended as a statewide club, with trips and meetings in all parts of the state.
The artwork for the emblem was commissioned some time ago, and formal foundation of the club only held back until after the special meeting of the Tas Sea Canoeing Club, where they voted overwhelmingly NOT to be recognised as a specialised sea canoeing club.
